Description of the Book:
This book thoroughly explores the art of Himmat Shah and narrates his artistic life and career. Himmat Shah was born in Lothal, Gujarat in 1933 and grew up in the surrounding remnants of a prominent port city of Indus Valley Civilization. His artistic vision and mission is strengthened by the Baroda School where he studied visual arts and „Group 1890‟ where he understood the concept of Indigenous Modernism. Himmat Shah became the avantgarde of this notion and evolved his own style and thematic idiom through drawing, painting and sculptures. His Terracotta Heads has been considered his signature work which explores the questions of his existence and enigma of his life and creation. His art is the result of the hard work of the last five decades and is also an important deed of Indian Modern Art. This book tries to describe his personal and artistic journey in three chapters. The chapter one narrates his biography very precisely and briefly. The chapter two discusses Himmat Shah‟s artistic sensibility in the context of modern Indian art while the chapter three explores his association with different artists and art forms as a source of inspiration.
