Solstice is the time when the Sun reaches its maximum and minimum declination during excursion relative to the celestial equator. This occurs near 21st June and 21st December. The Sun's motion comes to a stop, making it a "Stagnant Sun". Solstice here for a poet is interpreted as troughs and crests of emotions around a stagnant life.
