Poems To My Younger Self is an intimate journey through my transformation, unveiling experiences my younger self could hardly fathom. Proud, present, and poised to share my truth, I aim to enlighten little Shanika about the nuances of adulting. The guilt of emotional expression, the enduring expectation not to cry—remnants of childhood persist. Superheroes turn into story antagonists, love evolves into a trilogy, and the dream of a 26-year-old wife becomes more 30-ish. Boredom leads to ever-changing hairstyles, a refreshing ritual misunderstood by many. I’ve navigated the law of attraction’s highs and lows, balancing creativity amid responsibilities.

From an innocent Instagram post to the creation of my inaugural poetry book, there’s much to convey, yet the entirety remains elusive. This book becomes a healing balm for my inner child—a conversation to prepare her for the unfolding journey. It touches on diverse facets: shared dinners with friends, shaping young minds, forging new familial bonds, reveling in a friendship immersed in unconditional love, establishing boundaries, overcoming traumatic experiences, and culminating in a profound sense of gratitude. These are the poems addressed to my younger self.
