Author's Name: SHIRLEY JACOB About the Author: Shirley Jacob (née George; 28 January 1961) was born in Bhilai, a steel township in erstwhile Madhya Pradesh, now Chhattisgarh to Malayali Christian parents George and Mariamma, who were employees of Bhilai Steel Plant. The eldest among four daughters, she did her schooling in Bhilai and graduated in Electrical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Warangal, now in the State of Telangana (erstwhile Andhra Pradesh). With parents, both working, she found a great companion in books right from an early age. Her love for the written and the spoken word fired with an imaginative mind took her to accept a job with All India Radio in 1989 where it was a hobby turned into a profession, a job as much as a passion. Apart from raising a family of two bright kids with her husband who had a private business in Kerala, transfers in the job took her to various places which helped gain an insight into the nuances of communication. Many of the experiences are reflected in her personal writings including poems. Her spiritual bent of mind coupled with interest in inter-faith dialogues and the engagement with people especially women from every strata of the society keeps her interested in life.
