Description of the Book:
As a kid who grew up watching Sunday night mushayrahs with my grandpa, I always had a special place in my heart for the Urdu language. I also realised many people of my generation are in awe of the language and yet, intimidated by it's "difficult" and "mysterious" words. This little piece of work is my humble effort to help shun some of the stereotypes about Urdu. I've used the Roman script to make the poems more accessible. I've also provided meanings and explanations for the parts that may be confusing for new readers. I've also thrown in a few poems in English, for a change of pace. It is my sincere hope this book serves the readers as a gateway into the beautiful world of Urdu literature, which is a treasure waiting to be found, hence the title Dafiina- which means "buried treasure" :)
There you go! You've already learned your first word!
Dafiina
Author's Name: Yusuf Jawaid
About the Author: "Poet by birth, techie by circumstances" is how Yusuf describes himself. An avid reader and lover of poetry, he practically learnt to read Hindi and Urdu by reading poetry books. His love for poetry manifested in his writings while he was in college, where he organised his college's first ever open mic. He realised his talent for writing on accident, when during a technical malfunction at his college fest, he needed to keep the audience entertained as the MC of the event. He began to recite the poems he had nonchanalantly scribbled at the back of his notebook during boring lectures- and to his surprise, people loved it. He has been writing and performing at open mics ever since. Book ISBN: 9789363302778
