Description of the Book:

We fall in love not for love, but to feel invincible, to feel that our existence isn't as fragile as our body. A sense of supernatural, a sense of beyond, a cosmic exhilaration, and a pining for a magnificence that is much beyond meagre human existence. We indulge in amorous acts not for pleasure, for in those momentary moments we feel ourselves lingering beyond the extents of the cosmos, a divine sensation to feel as mighty as the wild natural elements.
But at the end of the day we are mere mortals facing the inevitability of mortality, and destruction of everything we build. This, I believe is the curse of the living. Everything that we hold, every moment that we create in all its glory has one destiny, that is to be dissolved into nothingness. But, does that mean we live timidly, and let ourselves be consumed by our mortality? No. I believe its the very reason why we should let ourselves be inundated by the drama of life, and their is no greater defiance against our curse than living the drama of life ; a pigeon standing on one feet, gentle breeze turning the pages of the book as if checking and forming opinion about the book, a tiny bird perched at the highest branch of the biggest tree, a new flower smiling at the sun, an almost dried up shrub angry with the late rain, falling leaves mourning the loss of attachment, a ripened fruit turning sweeter and sweeter in the hope of being choosen and plucked. Which damned curse can stand against such defiance ? Cursed to be mortals we may be, fragile in existence we may be, but our lives can always escape this curse, by leaving in essence a part of us behind. This compilation of poetry is my act of defiance. Its contents are not grand in nature, but of the most humble bits that forms our life. It's the belief in the beauty of ordinary, that makes our life extraordinary, and their is no greater means to appreciate the ordinary in life than poetry.

Curse of the living.

  • Author's Name: Kanupriya Sharma

About the Author: My name is Kanupriya sharma and I live in Bengaluru with my husband. I have a Bachelor's degree in Humanities. Since I was young I wanted to be a writer, but never once thought of myself as a Poet, my life experiences, long illness, loss of health, and ultimately a sequestered life turned me into a Poet. Life often doesn't make sense to me, and it's then I pick up a pen, and a paper to make sense of the superfluity of emotions that often pools in my anxious heart. For somebody like me with anxiety disorder, writing is not a choice but a way to sustain in this world that often leaves me overwhelmed and flustered. I am a Poet not by choice, but by circumstances. Years ago I was mistakenly delivered a compilation of Pablo Neruda's poetry, and since then I have not been able to admire any other poet, for I couldn't find that amorphous surreality anywhere else, and it's his poetry that set fire in my inflamed heart to write poetry. Over the years, I have realized it's not only the grandiloquent in life that deserves to be immortalized into poetry, but the common and unassuming too. From a tiny moth to glowing fairy lights all deserve a poetry of their own.
