Description of the Book:
This book is the result of a writing challenge which was recommended to me by a good friend and colleague. The challenge was to compose 21 poems over 21 days however, this was merely a guideline and the objective was simply to have 21 poems complete by the due date for publishing. Three of the poems included- 'An Expedient Sermon on Time', 'Dancing with Appearances' and Just a Moment Away' were the only poems I had written before the 21 day writing period. I thought that they would be nice additions given the theme of the book. The inspiration and theme of the 21 poems contained in this book is none other than the mind.

Author's Name: James Puterflam About the Author: A scientist, a sceptic, a Buddhist and many other things. Fascinated with science from an early age and evidence of truth, I studied a Bachelor of Medical Science majoring in Anatomy and Neuroscience at the University of Sydney. I then completed an additional honours research year which has now brought me to a PhD researching sleep in people with chronic low back pain. Whilst society likely sees me as a PhD student, this is not all that I am as the label is transient at best. Since my second year of University I grew an interest in meditation in tandem with Buddhism. Being a scientist and a sceptic of all things of faith, spirituality and science my journey over the past several years as a practicing Buddhist has been at times like a roller coaster ride. Whilst I could spend more time explaining how I am able to marry the worlds of science and spirituality, this short bio is intended to reveal my biases to the reader so they can understand my attempt to write on the topic of mind for a lay audience. Despite my biases, I have tried to use language which is free of religious or cultural terms that would impede a reader who is without prior knowledge or experience with texts discussing this topic. Furthermore, I have reflected on my own experiences and understanding as a simple human being when writing each poem. Plainly, I’m a pragmatic guy with a good bullshit meter (so I’ve been told). This collection of poems is an expression of my experiences and interpretation regarding the nature and appearances of mind. Poems I hope will be of only benefit to whomever reads them.
